Coach Johnson

Andre Johnson was born in East Chicago, Indiana. Coach Andre played basketball, baseball, and wrestled during his middle and high school years. He continued to play basketball while serving in the Marine Corps. Upon graduation from High School he enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended boot camp in San Diego, California in February 1978.

After completing boot camp, Coach Andre would continue to actively serve his country as a Marine before retiring in March 2008 after thirty years of honest and faithful service to our nation.

He retired as a Sergeant Major, which is the highest rank one can achieve in the enlisted ranks. Less than one percent of those who serve in the Marine Corps will ever achieve that rank.

Currently Coach Andre is the Assistant Director of Christian Education and teaches Sunday school at his local church, he serves on the Advisory Board for the Newton County Mentor Program and Mentors at Alcovy High School. He was awarded Mentor of the year for the 2011-2012 school years. The Covington News nominated Coach Andre in January 2012 as a candidate for HomeTown Heroes.

Coach Andre and his wife Angela have been married twenty nine years. They have one daughter, one son, and two grandsons.
